Racing season is in high gear for Emma Britt.

The last chance for fans to see her behind the wheel in Henry County this year is Saturday, in a Bandolero race at Atlanta Motor Speedway right after the NASCAR Xfinity Series race. It will be her first race at AMS on a NASCAR weekend, about a month before she starts high school.

So far this year the McDonough resident, who just completed eighth grade at Skipstone Academy, has won three times at the Hampton track, twice in Thursday Thunder events. She has also been victorious twice at Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele. The rest of this year’s schedule is expected to include events in Charlotte and Nashville.

After this weekend’s action at AMS in over, the track is being paved and will not be available for quite some time. This caused an interruption in the Thursday Thunder schedule, and the resulting change is significant for Emma and her family.
To allow the racers a full calendar, AMS officials arranged to have the final four races of the season at Lanier National Speedway in Gainesville. That facility, which has not been in operation for several years, was the site of many triumphant turns around the track by Emma’s father, Curt. He raced regularly there from 1992 until the mid-2000s and won four championships.

With a goal of racing well past high school, Emma has handled herself well on and off the track in the eyes of her peers as well as fans. She won the Reed Sorenson Most Popular Driver Award at AMS for the 2020 season, a particularly noteworthy accomplishment for a rookie.

“She is so nice to everybody,” said her mother, Lindsey. “We were pretty proud of her for winning that.”
