A new initiative for northern Henry County is being cited as a needed provider of healthcare as well as an economic development engine.

Commissioner Bruce Holmes announced a new partnership between Nidus Development and Piedmont Henry Health, calling it a win for citizens seeking high-quality healthcare options in the Fairview/Ellenwood corridor. The collaboration has been in the works for several months, he said.

“This is awesome news for north Henry County, north Clayton, west Rockdale and south DeKalb counties. This quad-county area has been medically underserved for decades,” said Holmes. “There are nearly 600,000 residents in a ten-mile radius, located minutes from downtown Atlanta and Hartsfield Jackson International Airport. We have been focused on developing a health and wellness commercial corridor that would deliver quality healthcare to our citizens while creating an employment hub simultaneously creating high-paying jobs for our citizens.”

Holmes previously worked with Nidus and other partners in an effort that led to the opening of the Fairview Urgent Care Center in the spring of 2017. He said he looks forward to adding the Piedmont brand to the health and wellness community in the same area, citing the leadership of Piedmont Henry CEO Deborah Armstrong as a key factor in making this collaboration happen.

“It is our pleasure and our privilege to serve the healthcare needs of Henry County,” said Armstrong. “Our goal is to provide high-quality, patient-centered care close to home for patients in the community, and we are excited to expand our services and better serve the residents of North Henry.”

Space in the Nidus-planned medical office building is now about 85 percent taken and construction is expected to begin sometime this year, according to officials. It is the latest in a number of projects Holmes has worked on to bring new businesses and improve  quality of life in the northernmost corner of Henry County.

“As a healthcare anchor, the Piedmont Health System could have a tremendous indirect impact in attracting businesses to the corridor offering retail and dining options which want to locate in a highly-educated and high-income area helping to improve quality of life for all Henry County citizens,” said Holmes. “I truly look forward to what the future has in store.”
