Updates from Stockbridge City Council

The Stockbridge City Council voted unanimously at its November 11 regular meeting to annex a 14-acre piece of property from unincorporated Henry County into the city.

The site in question is on the south side of Hwy. 138 on the western end of the city, just past Spivey Road and next to the Clayton County line. It is zoned RA (residential-agricultural), and the property owner does not intend to rezone it, according to officials. Because of this, the county did not raise any objection to the proposed annexation.

No one spoke in opposition to the annexation during the public hearing at the council meeting just before the vote.

In other business, the council voted unanimously to approve its meeting schedule for 2020, which is mostly unchanged from the 2019 schedule. Beginning with the first meeting of the year January 13, the council will convene the second Monday of every month at 6 p.m. in its chambers on the second floor of City Hall.

Work session meetings are set for the last Tuesday of each month with the exception of the June work session, scheduled for the 23rd. A December work session will take place as needed.

The 2020 benefits package for city employees was approved, and the council convened its first public hearing regarding the 2020 city budget. An amendment to the zoning code regarding procedures and criteria for administrative appeals and administrative waivers was approved.

The council approved the use of the Merle Manders Conference Center for the Henry County Police Department’s annual Policeman’s Ball, which is scheduled for February 29, 2020.
