Former Stockbridge City Council member Neat Robinson has another outlet for public service.

Less than two weeks after her term ended, Robinson was sworn in by Gov. Brian Kemp as a new member of the state’s Board of Corrections. The ceremony took place January 14 at the Capitol.

“It’s just come full circle,” she said of her new role in the state’s correctional system, pointing out that she was a corrections officer with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office nearly three decades ago. “I appreciate the opportunity to represent the 13th Congressional District, which means representing Henry County.”

She will serve a five-year term as one of 19 members of the board, which meets monthly at the state’s public safety facility in Forsyth and also at the Capitol when necessary. Of course, traveling to various correctional facilities around the state from time to time could also be part of the job, she noted.

Robinson was nominated for the post by Henry County Board of Commissioners chair June Wood, who was a member of the Board of Corrections before stepping down because of her busy schedule. Robinson’s background and qualifications were reviewed by state officials before Kemp made the choice.

She served one term on the Stockbridge City Council before being defeated narrowly in her bid for re-election last November. She has served on the legislative policy council as well as the federal policy council with the Georgia Municipal Association, along with other civic and community responsibilities.

She grew up in Clayton County, where she graduated from Morrow High School, and has lived in Stockbridge since 2006.
