Thomas Hugh Payne

  Thomas Hugh Payne, age 81, of Jonesboro, Ga., died Thursday, January 2, 2020, due to complications from pulmonary fibrosis. He was born in Lowell, Mass., to the late Calvin Lee Payne Sr. and Helen Josephine Hennessey Payne. Mr. Payne was a graduate of the University of Georgia and a life-long Dawg fan and supporter. After a thirty-year career with Sears and Roebuck where he held various store and region-level managerial positions, he retired in 1994. Mr. Payne was an avid golfer and a member of the Lake Spivey Senior Men’s Golf Association. His other hobbies included woodworking and HO model train collecting. He and his wife, Hettie, enjoyed traveling and exploring Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. National Parks of the East Coast and the West Coast. He also volunteered periodically for trail and park clean-up for the Georgia Nature Conservancy. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers Calvin Lee Payne Jr. and Dr. Richard Harold Payne.  

  Mr. Payne is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hettie Lou Reagan Payne; daughter, Deborah Payne Stephens; son-in-law, Rick E. Stephens; nieces, Lauren Payne Ames and Deloria Linn Payne; and nephews, Calvin Lee Payne III and James Richard Payne.

  A celebration of life and memorial service will be conducted by the Reverend James Miller on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in McDonough, Ga. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary in Locust Grove, GA, or an animal rescue/rehabilitation organization of your choice.

  Deborah Anne Britt, age 66, of Gracewood, Ga., passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2020.

Glow Twilight Contella

  Glow Twilight Contella, age 4, of McDonough, Ga., died Saturday, January 25, 2020. She was born in Beverly Hills, Calif., to Lauren Andrea Contella. Glow loved her school, friends, gymnastics and ballet, but mostly she loved her family. Her favorite thing was matching her mom, wearing sparkly shoes and putting on makeup at her vanity.  To honor her spirit, we ask that everyone wear colorful clothes to the service.

  Glow is survived by her mother Lauren Contella; siblings, Noah Contella, Bliss Contella and Julianna Gutierrez; grandparents, Alice St. Onge, Sandy Contella; uncle, Jeffrey Contella; aunt, Nina Contella; plus many friends, family, and loved ones.

  Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at 3 p.m. at McDonough Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dana Waters officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday, February 2, 2020 from 1 until 3 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Glow Twilight Fund at McDonough Presbyterian Church.
