Local Emergency declared in McDonough

Due to the recent significant rise in cases of COVID-19 reported by the Georgia Department of Public Health, Mayor Billy Copeland signed a Declaration of Local Emergency on Friday, July 17. The Declaration enacts the local emergency operations plan in place with Henry County Emergency Management, thus providing for the possibility of greater resources to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of our citizens.

The Declaration of Local Emergency also incorporates the provisions of Executive Order 07.15.20 issued by Governor Brian Kemp, while strongly urging citizens to wear masks as recommended by the Center for Disease Control and the Office of the Governor. In addition to these steps, the City of McDonough encourages everyone to adhere to virus mitigation guidelines from the CDC to reduce risk of exposure to COVID-19.  For more information, visit www.cdc.gov.

Lastly, the Declaration provides the City Administrator with authorization to implement COVID prevention measures for the protection of City employees and citizens, as well as the ability to determine which municipal buildings and facilities should be closed to the public with the approval of the Mayor.
