Officials with the Kiwanis Club of Henry County have decided to cancel this year’s Henry County Fair. The announcement was posted September 2 on the club’s Facebook page.

It is the latest annual event to be scrapped for 2020 due to safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The fair has traditionally taken place in October.

It is typically a major fundraiser for the Kiwanis Club of Henry County, which uses the proceeds to benefit a number of local charities such as Haven House, A Friend’s House, Hands of Hope Clinic, Raise Me Up Foundation, Connecting Henry, Operation Lunchbox, Henry County Senior Services, and more.

Club officials are hoping to continue that effort this year by sponsoring a raffle with several large prizes: a five-night stay at a mountain cabin in Hiawassee; a $1,000 VISA gift card; and $500 in local restaurant gift cards. Among the participating merchants listed on the announcement are Pilgreen’s, Gezzo’s, Fusion, Shane’s Rib Shack, Southern Belle Farm, and Italian Oven.

Interested participants can reserve their tickets by commenting on the Facebook page announcement or sending the club a message at henrycountykiwa nis@gmail.com. Payment can be made by check or by using Venmo @HenryCounty-Kiwanis Club. Someone affiliated with the club will make contact promptly regarding tickets.

The raffle drawing will take place via Facebook the week of October 26.
