On the heels of a challenging year, a local group of theater students are preparing to take the stage once again.
The Theater Department at Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy, 2400 Ga. Highway 42 N., in McDonough, is set to present Disney’s “The Little Mermaid.” Show dates and times are April 29-30 at 7 p.m., and a matinee performance May 1 at 11 a.m.

The stage play tells the story of 16-year-old Ariel, a mermaid enthralled with the idea of living on land. The production follows Ariel’s quest for love and freedom, as well as her dangerous dealings with Ursula the Sea Witch.

ELCA’s Spring Production follows a series of shutdowns and cancellations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Producer Chuck Ekstedt said that when positive news about vaccines began to surface, director Amanda Farnsworth and choreographer Mya Tiller began preparing for auditions and rehearsals.

Ekstedt voiced high hopes for this year’s play. “I’m very proud to announce that everything is coming out fantastic, and that this year’s Spring Production has the potential to be our best show ever,” said Ekstedt.

Tickets are $8 each and can be purchased at the door. Facemasks are encouraged for audience members at check-in time, but can be taken off when everyone is seated.

“I want everyone to feel comfortable and be able to sing along to all of the fun classic show tunes,” said Ekstedt.
