On Tuesday, December 21, former McDonough Mayor Billy Copeland and Veteran Support Group CEO Jim Dunn signed a new four-year lease for the Veteran’s House and Service Center located at 32 Jonesboro Street in McDonough, GA.

The original lease was signed in 2016 when the location of the Veteran’s House and Service Center was slated to become a city parking lot. “My late partner, Bob Van Dunk and myself had a vision to create a place where veterans could come and be helped to navigate the perils of the Veterans Administration,” said Jim Dunn.

Through the securing of a grant from the Home Depot Foundation, The Veteran’s House and Service Center was renovated and the doors were opened in September 2018. During their three and a half years of being open, the purely volunteer staff has helped 11,500 individual veterans and their families obtain medical and financial benefits from the VA. The House also has a Food Pantry and a Clothes Closet for Veterans and their families.

“The Veteran’s House and Service Center is a true asset to the city of McDonough and to Henry County. Mayor Copeland still sees the vision to this day of the good that the Veterans Support Group has done and will continue to do for the citizens of our community. Four more years of having a place to call home … the Veteran’s House and Service Center,” said Dunn.
