Election results from June 21 runoff

A few remaining races from the primary election were decided during the June 21 runoff — one county contest along with several legislative and statewide races.

The only local election still undecided was the Democratic primary for the District 5 seat on the Henry County Board of Commissioners. Kevin Lewis prevailed in the runoff with 58 percent of the vote over Keisha Stubbs. The two were the top vote-getters out of original field of four.

Lewis will face Republican primary winner Edward Toney in November for the right to succeed Bruce Homes, who is wrapping up three terms on the board but could not run for a fourth because his district was redrawn. Holmes ran for the State Senate District 10 seat in the primary but lost to ten-term incumbent Emanuel Jones.

The District 117 seat on the Georgia House of Representatives will be decided between Demetrius Rucker, who won the Democratic primary outright, and Lauren Daniel, who defeated Noelle Kahaian in the Republican runoff after eliminating two previous candidates. Daniel won the overall race with 50.3 percent of the vote and garnered nearly 53 percent in the Henry County portion of the district.

Another race that includes portions of Henry and surrounding counties is the 10th Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. The primary saw eight candidates on the Republican side as well five Democrats vying for it.

Mike Collins and Vernon Jones qualified for the Republican runoff, and Collins won easily by nearly a 3-to-1 margin. Collins got more than 73 percent of the vote both in the overall district and the Henry County portion.

Tabitha Johnson-Green won the Democratic runoff over Jessica Allison Fore with 77 percent in Henry County and 64 percent district-wide. Johnson-Green and Collins will square off in November with the winner going to Washington.

Four statewide races were on the runoff ballot in Henry County, all Democrats. The winners were Charlie Bailey (lieutenant governor), Bee Nguyen (secretary of state), Janice Laws Robinson (insurance commissioner) and William Boddie, Jr. (labor commissioner).
