The McDonough City Council voted last month to approve two rezonings and two of its own real estate transactions.
One vote at the March 20 regular meeting was to rezone property at 937 Hwy. 81 from C-2 (central commercial) to C-3 (highway commercial). The change was approved with conditions that included aluminum coated fencing around both retention ponds and no drive-thru businesses.

Also approved was a rezoning from O-I (office institutional) to R-85 (single-family residential) for property at 87 Sims Street to allow residential use, as well as a rezoning from O-I to C-1 (neighborhood commercial) at 20 Jonesboro Street to allow for retail sales.

Each vote was preceded by a public hearing at which no one from the public spoke for or against any of these items.
A motion passed authorizing the mayor to negotiate and execute the purchase of property at 222 Decatur Road for no more than $850,000. That same authorization was also given regarding property at 350 Simpson Street with the price limit set at $125,000.

In other business, the council voted to approve an ordinance amending the city code for the purpose of regulating and reducing loitering at city convenience stores, as well as a resolution authorizing a temporary moratorium on permits and applications for signage and R-50 residential zonings.

Also approved was a $22,950 expenditure for resurfacing of the basketball courts at Richard Craig Park, a $29,500 allocation for replacement of two fire hydrants, a $10,345 software expenditure, and $40,798 for installment of security cameras at City Hall.
