Henry County As It Was

In an effort to preserve some of the history of our community, The Times is displaying photos of Henry County from the past. If you can tell us anything about the photo shown above, use this form. In the next edition, we’ll reveal the details of the picture and notes readers send to us.

Barbara Moore wrote, “This is a photo of a restaurant that was located on Hwy. 155 South in McDonough.” Sherry Carmichael identified the photo of the restaurant and motel that was on the corner of Hwy. 155 South and McDonough Industrial Blvd. “My son, Chris, learned to swim there when he was 4 years old. Many McDonough residents used this pool. Good Ole Days.” Arthur Weems wrote in to identify the photo and added, “The largest tenants at the motel were from Norfolk Southern which had a training center nearby.” Tony Moye wrote, “This was the Davis Brother Cafeteria and motel that John Davis build along I-75 in McDonough. We would see John working the cafeteria line as many area residents went through after church on Sundays. John and his family were great supporters of our community.” Thanks also to Mark Parker for writing to identify the photo.
