City to host concerts in the coming months

From music and food to festivals and fireworks, Locust Grove’s calendar has activities lined up to attract residents and visitors alike.

The city will celebrate Locust Grove Day April 15 at Claude Gray Park, 99 Frances Ward Drive. The free event will include food trucks, arts and crafts vendors, educational displays and raffles.

Festivities for Locust Grove Day will kick off at 10 a.m., with a parade through the city’s downtown area, and a Festival and Crafts Fair until 2 p.m. The city will host a Street Dance at 7 p.m., featuring the Mackie Creek Band, and a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. The Citizen of the Year will be announced during the Street dance at Locust Grove Day.

Beginning in June, the park will also host a Friday Nights on the Lawn Summer Series on the first Friday of the month from 6-9 p.m., said Locust Grove Main Street Manager, Colleen Cook. Scheduled performers include the Vintage Vixens on June 2, Leah Belle Fraser on July 7, and Trombone Love on August 4.

Cook is hopeful that Locust Grove’s upcoming events will help to showcase what the city has to offer, while fostering a sense of community for the area.

“The City of Locust Grove has a lot of great free family entertainment lined up, which I hope will encourage residents and visitors alike to come together as a community, enjoy the outdoors, see old friends, and meet new ones,” said Cook. “It is my belief that community events bring people together and create those connections that foster mental, physical, and emotional well-being. We want our town’s events to reflect this value, and for folks in Locust Grove to really see each other as neighbors and friends.”

Have seen the Vintage Vixens many times @ Hippiefest in Morrow and they really Bring it. The little “Janis Joplin” guitarist up front always steals the show.
