The City of Stockbridge recently mourned the loss of Former Stockbridge City Councilman Fred Evans. He died on April 26, following a stroke, at age 66.

Evans attended Stockbridge High School and served on the council for 12 years. His daughter, Brittany Smith, said her father took over at Stockbridge Electric for his own father, G.W. Evans Jr., who was also a former councilman.

“He wanted to follow in his daddy’s footsteps to make a difference in the community and make the city a better place,” said Smith.

Former Councilman Richard Steinberg currently lives abroad, but shared his thoughts on Fred Evans’ passing. Steinberg described Evans as “a true son of Stockbridge” who was passionate about his hometown.

“Fred and I became good friends following his departure from City Council and my ascension to same,” said Steinberg. “He ultimately moved into my neighborhood, and we spent many good times together discussing Stockbridge, past and future. Fred and I continued to communicate during the past eight years, even after my wife and I had moved overseas. Freddie was a truly good man. My wife and I are at a total loss of words due to his untimely passing. Rest In Peace, our friend.”

Funeral services for Evans were held Saturday at Stockbridge Presbyterian Church.
