Bridge to be replaced on Blackhall Road

Motorists who commute daily between Stockbridge and points north, from Clayton County to downtown Atlanta and beyond, will have to make some major adjustments over the next two months.

Henry County government officials announced this week that Blackhall Road will be closed to thru traffic beginning Aug. 12 for bridge replacement construction. The job is expected to take about 60 days.

A post on the county’s official Facebook page included a graphic that shows the location of the road closure and detour routes. Blackhall Road is on the eastern edge of Lake Spivey, west of I-75, and runs north to south between Walt Stephens Road and Jodeco Road.

Blackhall Road is a popular route for commuters using I-75 every day, especially those who seek to avoid the stretch of I-75 that includes the I-675 split and the Eagle’s Landing Parkway exit.

The map posted by the county recommends that motorists use Flippen Road to the east as the primary detour. Since Flippen Road is already a very popular north-south route for motorists going to and from Stockbridge, this situation will make it even more crowded. Motorists should allow plenty of extra time over the next two months when taking this route.

It looks like they are constructing the segments of the bridge on staging areas adjacent to the road and will then move them into position. It would be interesting to see them assemble the pieces.
