Private schools in the area to offer on-campus classes

Hundreds of Henry County students will be in actual brick-and-mortar classrooms when classes start next month.

In the wake of the Henry County Board of Education’s decision on July 17 to start the year with all of its 43,000-plus students taking virtual classes, the Times contacted representatives at various private schools in the county to see what their plans are.

Community Christian School in Stockbridge will be opening August 4 and offer both regular in-person classes and remote learning classes for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. New interactive camera/audio systems have been added that school officials say will greatly enhance the virtual option.

Creekside Christian Academy, with campuses in Hampton in McDonough, will have both in-person classes and an online option. The first day of school has been moved to August 13.

New Creation Christian Academy in McDonough will have on-campus instruction beginning August 3 “barring any new mandates from Gov. Kemp,” according to a spokesperson. It is a university-model school for full-time and part-time students, with students attending classes on campus two days a week at the elementary and middle school levels. In high school, students’ schedules are based on a typical college schedule with classes meeting once or twice a week for 90 minutes to two hours each.

Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy has made no changes to its plan for offering on-campus classes as well as virtual classes with a start date of August 5.

Strong Rock Christian School in Locust Grove will be opening August 3 for “live in-person classes,” according to a statement. Officials have been implementing a comprehensive plan for a safe return to continuous full-day activities. Masks are optional within all classrooms and for all elementary-aged children. More details are available at the school’s website.

North Henry Academy in Stockbridge will be offering in-person classes with safety protocols in place. According to a recent post on the school’s Facebook page, “our small class sizes allow us to avoid issues present on a larger scale.” The school will also offer the option of online virtual education for each student in kindergarten through 11th grade.

Peoples Baptist Academy in McDonough noted on its website that plans are in place for school to begin on time Tuesday, August 11.

Heritage Baptist Christian School in Locust Grove lists its first day of class as Wednesday, August 11.

The website for Bible Baptist Christian School in Hampton has only this simple greeting: “We welcome you to join us when we reopen on August 3.”

You left out Salem Christian Academy which offers Pre-K through 5th Grade. They are still doing on campus learning beginning Monday with small class sizes and socially distancing measures.
