Reeves hospitalized after cycling accident

Family and friends are rallying behind a local man and his family after he was seriously injured in a cycling accident over the weekend.

Josh Reeves, 37, of Covington was riding with a friend Sunday between 8 a.m., and 9 a.m., on Ga. Highway 212 near County Line Road when the incident occurred. His older brother, Jason Reeves of McDonough, said Josh, an experienced cyclist, was on a route he has ridden many times with a friend, when he was hit from behind by a pickup truck.

“He was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center and underwent emergency surgery for extensive severe injuries,” said Jason Reeves, 49. “He remains in intensive care at this time.”

Josh and his wife, Lindsey, live in Covington with their daughter, Ellie. His brother described him as an “incredible” athlete and person, and “one of the most humble and kindhearted people you’d ever meet.”

Jason added that he is thankful for the “outpouring of prayers and love” from the community for his brother. He said his family is “so thankful to God that Josh is still with us.”

Josh Reeves has worked for three years as an ophthalmic and optometric technician at Fallas Family Vision in McDonough. The practice’s owner, Dr. Peto Fallas, has known him since 2011 and called him an “extraordinary father and husband.”

“His main concern is always for his daughter and his wife,” said Fallas.

Fallas said he has set up a GoFundMe account to raise money to assist with Josh Reeves’ medical expenses.

“I set a goal for $10,000 based on future expenses,” he said. “He’s still in the hospital, we don’t know how long he’s going to be there. I’m sure he’s going to have a lot of medical expenses.”

Fallas said the accident “shows how fragile life is.”

“It takes just one second for a person’s life to be changed, and their loved ones as well,” he said. “We hope that Josh is able to recover 100 percent.”

Not only do I pray for Josh and his family, but also the medical team who has charge of his care. I ask our Father in heaven to bless them all with His knowledge, understanding and wisdom regarding that which best serves the will of God, that he be completely healed. Lord bless his loved ones with comfort, peace and faith. This prayer I also pray for the one who struck Josh. In Jesus, amen.

Good afternoon I hope all is well I don’t know Josh personally however I know his mother n law his wife’s Mother and their adorable daughter . My husband is also a bike rider and I can only imagine what you all may be going through at this time . That’s why it is so important to have a very good support team- we are praying without ceasing.

It’s wrong to call this a “cycling accident”. If a truck ran over a pedestrian from behind, we wouldn’t call it a “walking accident”.
